LEONARDTOWN, MD (RNN) – An Army Black Hawk helicopter on a training mission sustained heavy damage when it crashed on a golf course in southern Maryland on Monday afternoon.
The Army has confirmed that one of the three people aboard was taken via medical helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock and Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Images and videos tweeted from the scene show the twisted remains of the craft. The Washington Post reported that two have been medevaced, one more than the Army claim. The Post cited Maryland state police as the source of the information.
Army officials tell me reports of a fatality in the crash are inaccurate. Black Hawk from Ft. Belvoir went down about 1:50p.m. One medevac.

The helicopter crashed in Leonardtown, MD, on Monday at about 1:50 p.m., and the state police said two police medevac choppers were assisting.
An eyewitness who works at the pro shop of the Breton Bay Golf and Country Club in Leonardtown said he saw the helicopter flying low, and then saw it spinning before it went down between the third and fourth holes of the golf course.
The location of the crash is about 60 miles southeast of Washington, DC.
The Army has denied early reports of a fatality.
Told the Black Hawk was on a training mission when it went down. One of the 3 aboard medevacced to UMD Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The craft is out of Fort Belvoir, which is located in Fairfax, VA, approximately 40 miles from the crash site.
This is the second military aircraft to crash in Maryland this month. On April 5, an F-16 fighter jet crashed during a training mission in National Harbor, MD, near Joint Base Andrews. The pilot ejected safely from the jet and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
