An Alabama man was arrested in Augusta Monday after allegedly brandishing a gun and threatening several fair employees.
According to an incident report from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, at around 7:23 p.m. on Oct. 24, deputies responded to the Augusta fair grounds for reports of a man armed with a rifle and handgun. When they arrived, deputies found thirty-nine-year-old Sean Antonio Nelson armed with a semi-automatic assault rifle and a handgun.
According to one fair employee, Nelson approached him as his girlfriend and he were packing their RV. Nelson reportedly pointed the rifle at the employee’s chest, demanding to know the location of an unknown woman. The employee says Nelson told him that if he did not come with him to look for the woman, he would start shooting. Other fair employees tell investigators Nelson forced his way into their RV approached them from across the parking lot, demanding information about the unknown woman.
After taking Nelson into custody, it was discovered that he is a convicted felon who was convicted in Florida 2001 for Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute. Nelson has been booked into the Richmond County Jail and charged with Kidnapping an Adult, Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission of a Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Reckless Conduct and two counts of Pointing or Aiming a Firearm at Another Person.
