An update to a story FOX 54 brought to you a week ago, code enforcement has given a notice of violation to management at Fox Den Apartments. This comes after a resident complained to management about having rats in her home and Wyonna Moore phone records shows that she reportedly reached out to maintenance about the issue but nothing was done about it.

The notice says that they have to hire a licensed pest control company to fix the issue in Moore’s apartment. Moore confirms that pest control came out for an initial viewing but nothing has been done yet. However, management has been helpful in another area.

“They came in and they actually fixed everything. They closed in the holes in the closet and they closed in the holes under the kitchen sink. I had a hole behind my stove and there was a hole behind my refrigerator so they closed up all the holes and put out more traps. I have still seen more droppings but I have not physically seen the rats since then.”, More says.

Other residents in Fox Den are speaking out too, one being Mauriquez Mitchell who lives with his wife and daughter. He too deals with rats in his home and has put in eight work orders to management and will be contacting code enforcement as well because moving out is not an option for him and many others at Fox Den Apartments. “Even though the rent is real cheap it is no place for somebody to live in these conditions. You know my jobs are around this way and my girls job is around this way . . . you can not just move and start over that quickly. I would rather for them to get it together here so we do not have to do a story about it.”

Code Enforcement says in situations like these apartment managers have to be on their A game.

“At the end of the day it is their property and they need to make sure their investment is still there.  They want to make sure that tenants are not destroying their property as well and they want to make sure that if a tenant that’s actually paying monthly on time — they want to make sure that tenant is happy. So at the end of they day they should provide more inspections to these homes.”, suggests Terrence Wynder who is the Code Enforcement Manager. Wynder recommends management to perform quarterly inspections rather than yearly inspections.

Fox Den has thirty days to fix the problem in Moore’s place. If they fail to do so, management could face charges up to a 1,000 dollars in court or up to sixty days in jail per violation.
