NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) –

A fire at the recycling facility on Claypit Rd. in North Augusta damaged the building and some equipment.

According to North Augusta Public Safety, the fire was spotted by workers at the nearby animal control facility as they came out to feed the dogs at around 7:30 a.m. Monday. The center was closed for Labor Day, so no workers were on site when the fire started.

The fire broke out in a pile of trash that was being kept under an awning attached to the building. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze. However, it left parts of the building and some equipment used for sorting trash severely damaged.

It is unclear how the fire began.
